SAH Refugee Sponsorship
At the Alberta Somali Community Centre in Edmonton, we are proud to lead the SAH Refugee Sponsorship Program, a vital initiative that helps newcomers build safe, stable, and hopeful lives in Canada.
What is SAH Refugee Sponsorship
SAH stands for Sponsorship Agreement Holder, a program that allows private organizations like ours to sponsor refugees. Through this program, we partner with community members to welcome individuals and families fleeing hardship, offering them the chance to start anew in Canada.
Support From Arrival to the First Year
Our commitment begins the moment refugees arrive in Edmonton.
We provide:
– Warm welcome and settlement support to ease the transition.
– Orientation documents and guidance to help newcomers understand Canadian systems, rights, and responsibilities.
– Basic needs assistance such as housing, food, clothing, and healthcare access.
– Community integration support, ensuring refugees feel connected, valued, and empowered in their new home.
Why it Matters
The first year in Canada is often the most challenging for refugees. By offering structured support, we help families navigate unfamiliar environments, reduce stress, and lay the foundation for long-term success. Our program is not just about survival—it’s about dignity, belonging, and opportunity.
