About Us

Alberta Somali Community Centre

ASCC, is a grassroot organization that strongly focuses on celebrating community strengths and capacity building in collaboration with local community members, institutions and government. ASCC’s vision is to provide tools of self- sufficiency for new Canadian communities that address and prevent specific problems faced by immigrant families that hinder positive integration. The organization’s main priority is to deliver services with integrity to children, youth and families and individuals living in vulnerable conditions by role modeling healthy trust-based relationships to prevent isolation that increase mental illness & family unit breakdown.

The organization provide numerous recreational, legal, and Cultural activities and programs which lends credit to its capacity of delivering programs among various stakeholders and government officials. ASCC provides settlement services, women programs, child care services, seniors programs, family support services, mediation services (in schools and families), sponsorship programs, settlement services, etc. which again demonstrates its experience in project implementation especially a project such as this one.

Since 2007 the ASCC has played a vital role in developing and delivering programs that meet many of immigrant women barriers such as skills training and employment opportunities. ASCC has also established partnerships with the City of Edmonton as well as with local organizations as the John Howard Society, Mennonite Centre For Newcomers, Catholic Social Services, and NorQuest College to address many well-identified and emerging needs of immigrant communities.

ASCC also has a pre-established engagement platform and inflow of clients in place, in support of this proposal and other proposals. Working with over 1200 families annually, the ASCC is well positioned to leverage this project and attain its intended results.
